In my experience this is probably your issue and nothing to do with BIM360 at all, Having run multiple 1-2Gb projects on BIM360 I would know. If it is not the issue then I have a couple other suggestions to try after that.
You will the need to go to a backup of this family, or create a new one from scratch. It will crash on the corrupted family and then you need to delete the family from your model. Just go to the families section of your model select them all in the browser list and export all the families from your model. To find the corrupted family is very easy. Probably one of your families' is corrupted. I normally see this is a corrupted family issue with people at work where it wont sync and just hangs without doing anything.
